SWVMA Grants Program:

The Southwest Vegetation Management Association funds small invasive plant projects with a duration of up to two years that focus on invasive plant species of the American Southwest. Proposed projects can address on the ground management or research into new treatment methods for invasive species. The projects must occur within Arizona. Collaborations and student applications are welcome. Project budgets should range from $500-$2,500 and matching funds are not required but are encouraged.

Grant applications are accepted on a biannual basis. Applications are currently closed until the 2026 round of applications.

Previously Funded Projects

2024 Funded project:

Grant: Awarded to Arizona State University, Dr. Becky Ball and Dr. Maria Sanin – Stinknet Restoration Project. Grant Agreement up to $3,000.

ASU will study: 1.) What species of native plants are best able to outcompete stinknet during restoration (thus preventing stinknet from re-establishing after removal)? 2.) By what mechanisms are stinknet vs. native plants able to competitively exclude the other?

2022 Funded projects:

Grant #1 Awarded to Greenlee County SWVMA Grant Agreement up to $2500

and Grant #2 was awarded to University of Arizona, Maricopa County Extension up to $1300.

Greenlee County will develop a demonstration area for integrated weed management at Duncan High School.

University of Arizona. The study will examine stinknet soil seed banks to determine germination temperature ranges and survival climate conditions.
